What is Trellis Impact?
Trellis Impact brings together the leaders powering the future of carbon, energy, circular economy, climate tech and beyond to spark breakthrough ideas, scale solutions, and build powerful partnerships that will drive the clean economy forward.
Our Perspective
At UL Standards & Engagement, we are a critical facilitator and accelerator of innovation. We help ensure that new ideas are explored and implemented with safety at their center, allowing them to flourish and mature to their potential. Importantly, we are designing for resource mindfulness.
Batteries are a huge part of clean energy but have limited lifespan. We are working to develop more standards related to advancing a circular economy for batteries to support prolonging battery lifespan, keeping it out of landfills.

about this session
What is preventing safe, scalable battery recycling and reuse — and what can be done? What will it take to align stakeholders and accelerate circularity at scale?
As lithium-ion batteries reach end-of-life in growing volumes, the need for reliable pathways for reuse and recycling is becoming more urgent. Advancing battery circularity is critical not only to improve safety, but also to minimize environmental impact and preserve valuable materials. Where are the biggest gaps, and what actions matter most now?
This session brings together experts from across the battery end-of-life ecosystem to explore solutions — from reducing fire risk and strengthening traceability to clarifying pathways for second-life use. Grounded in new data and stakeholder input, the session will examine where alignment is emerging, where fragmentation persists, and which near-term actions can drive progress.
