Helping to Protect People and Their Property with Home Security System Standards

Why it matters

When it comes to safeguarding households, families want only the best in protection. Yet, approximately two million home burglaries in the U.S. are reported each year. That means about every 18 seconds, there is another home being invaded. And now, with the rise and adoption of smart devices and the Internet of Things, keeping connected homes secure can be even more complicated than ever.

What we're doing

One of the best ways to protect homes, family members and valuables is with a reliable security system. Our Standards, UL 603, UL 606 and UL 634, incorporate requirements for safety, performance, reliability and interoperability of security equipment, so that it will work as expected during an emergency.

How you can help

Our Standards are developed through a consensus-based process, which integrates scientific and testing expertise with input from our Standards Technical Panel (STP) members and stakeholders. STP members represent a variety of interests, including industry, academia, government, retail and manufacturing. If you are involved in the design, construction, sale, installation, or monitoring of home security systems, and you would like to help improve safety and security in your industry, please submit a proposal or apply to join an STP.
