UL Standards & Engagement Expands Commitment in Asia with New Singapore-Based Entity

SINGAPORE – UL Standards & Engagement today announced the incorporation of a new subsidiary, ULSE Asia Limited, based in Singapore, marking a significant expansion of the organization’s work in the Asia-Pacific region. The move builds on ULSE’s growing impact across Asia and advances its mission to help create a safer world.

“Safety should not have borders, and we are excited to further our commitment to the region and its people,” said Jeff Marootian, president and CEO of UL Standards & Engagement. “As a global standards development organization, UL Standards & Engagement plays a critical role in convening stakeholders and advancing harmonized safety frameworks that support innovation and protect people in Asia and beyond.”

Since opening a Singapore office in 2018, ULSE has built a reputation of success in the region, including significant growth in staff and technical committee participation, expanded partnerships, and the adoption of critical safety standards into law. As new and emerging risks continue to develop, ULSE remains at the forefront of advancing safety globally.

As Singapore explores new pathways to meet its clean energy transition goals, the safe deployment of energy storage systems has become increasingly important. In response, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and ULSE have partnered to provide technical expertise supporting the development of the Amended Fire Code, including the implementation of requirements such as UL 9540A, Test Method for Evaluating Thermal Runaway Fire Propagation in Battery Energy Storage Systems. This collaboration was recognized in November, when the organizations received the Pro-Enterprise Impact & Partnership Award from Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.

“Expanding our presence across the region enables closer collaboration with key stakeholders to address emerging safety challenges,” said Kolin Low, regional director for the ASEAN region at UL Standards & Engagement. “By engaging directly with regulators, industry, and local partners, we gain deeper insight into regional priorities, strengthen awareness of safety, support the practical adoption of standards that help ensure safety solutions are credible, relevant, and effective for the communities they serve.”

ULSE Asia Limited positions the organization to further scale its standards development and advocacy in one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
