Sarah Shields is director of communications and outreach for UL Standards & Engagement, supporting strategy and execution for the organization’s communications initiatives, events, stakeholder engagement, and public campaigns.
With a strong track record of building mission-driven communications programs, Shields joined ULSE from the Manufacturing Institute, where she served as director of women’s engagement, advancing workforce initiatives to close the skills gap and elevate women in manufacturing. Previously, she was director of industry communications at the U.S. Travel Association, where she oversaw executive visibility, policy messaging, and strategic event programming. Shields also supported federal initiatives including FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program and the IRS Free File initiative.
She holds a B.A. in history and East Asian studies from the University of Delaware.
