What is TRIP?

Lithium-ion battery fires on planes present a significant safety concern for both passenger and cargo flights. UL Standards & Engagement has worked with the aviation industry in the development of the Thermal Runaway Incident Program (TRIP), a voluntary reporting program focused on better understanding lithium-ion battery incidents and related safety issues.

Our Goal: Expanding Global Participation

Since its launch, TRIP has grown to include 37 air carriers and numerous aviation stakeholders. While the majority of participants are based in North America, we recognize that thermal runaway incidents pose a global risk to the aviation industry. To address this, we are hosting the TRIP Summit to encourage broader participation. By expanding collaboration with airlines worldwide, we can gain valuable insights and strengthen safety measures to better address these incidents in the future.
