Deaths From E-Bike Fires Declining in New York City After UL Standards Written Into Law

In 2023, New York City enacted Local Law 39, requiring any company selling, leasing, or distributing micromobility devices, such as electric bikes or electric scooters, to meet safety standards published by UL Standards & Engagement that help to reduce the risk of fire. Since the law took effect, the rate of injuries and deaths from e-bike fires has started to slow.

Increasing Public Awareness of Counterfeiting

Counterfeit products — goods or packaging that bear a trademark that is virtually the same as one registered to an authorized owner — are one of the most significant global risks to intellectual property rights owners. Their effects can harm consumers, rights owners, and governments. For consumers, counterfeit products can pose risks to health and safety. This paper focuses on public awareness regarding counterfeiting and ways to increase it.

2024 International Law Enforcement IP Crime Conference

The 2024 International Law Enforcement Intellectual Property Crime Conference will occur on September 23-25 in Willemstad, Curaçao. INTERPOL will cohost the 17th annual event with the Government of Curaçao and its partner, the Curinde Free Trade Zone, in partnership with UL Standards & Engagement and presented by the International IP Crime Investigators College.
