UL Standards & Engagement Signs Standards Collaboration Agreement with China Association of Circular Economy

Representatives of UL and CACE sign an agreement to collaborate

Organizations working to adapt UL Standard for circular economy for China

UL Standards & Engagement and the China Association of Circular Economy (CACE) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish how we will further our work together on the development of national, industry, and association standards in China.

As a governmental organization, CACE formulates strategic planning on the development of a circular economy in China and is responsible for improving standards, regulations and policy mechanisms.

Under the terms of the collaboration and license agreement, UL and CACE agreed to promote communication between both organizations, avoid duplication of work efforts, and increase knowledge of each other’s standards development activities. UL resources will be utilized to strengthen the national standards and industry system in China, and applicable UL standards will be accepted, translated and used to help develop a sustainable circular economy.

Collaboration has already begun with the organization of a group to review preliminary documentation in use to develop UL 3600, Standard for Measuring and Reporting Circular Economy Aspects of Products, Sites and Organizations which covers the methods and metrics for measuring properties of circular economy. Experts in the group will work together to discuss technical issues related to localization of the Standard.

CACE carries out China’s policy of resource conservation and environmental protection, while also implementing its Circular Economy Promotion Law. The association is working to advance the development of a green economy in China with circular and low-carbon development, as well as improved resource utilization efficiency, pollution prevention, a nationwide recycling program, and accelerated ecological construction.

“UL Standards & Engagement is pleased to sign this MOU in partnership with CACE and we look forward to building a strong working relationship with industry leaders in China,” said Phil Piqueira, vice president, global standards, UL Standards & Engagement. “This is an excellent opportunity to share technical knowledge and improve safety in line with UL’s mission of promoting safer and more sustainable living and working environments globally.”
